It’s All About Me: Being Self-Centred in Today’s Modern Workplace

If you heard an employee saying “it’s all about me”, you’d be forgiven for thinking that such a self-centered attitude has no place in today’s workplace. But what if that phrase actually summed up a better way of working? I often say that if we get the workplace right, we get the workflow right, by empowering people and giving them space to innovate. By making it easy to click, connect and collaborate, people have the tools to get the information they need, exactly when they need it, whatever their task.

The value of such increased collaboration and engagement is undoubtedly greater productivity. A 2013 Gallup survey suggested that by giving people the right tools for the job and improving levels of engagement, productivity increases by around 22%1.

And being a modern enterprise is also important for recruiting and retaining staff. The people we’re recruiting right now care a lot about what their workplace is like, what technology they’re going to get to do their job – many will even bring their own applications to work and want to start using them right away.
